Book Review of Dragonwatch: Return of the Dragon Slayers (Book #5) by Brandon Mull
The first time I read Fablehaven #1 I didn’t like it. Crazy, right? My good friend told me not to give up on the series. She said I’d love it. So, I reluctantly read book #2. Fast forward 11.5 years later and now I’ve read and loved the final four books of Fablehaven and the first 4 Dragonwatch books along with a few other related books! I can’t believe that this series that has been with me so long has come to an end. Who knows? Maybe Brandon Mull will continue it somehow, but for now this is it. Book #5. The end. Dragonwatch: Return of the Dragon Slayers (Book #5) by Brandon Mull.
Blurb:
“The magical world teeters on the brink of collapse. The Dragon King, Celebrant, has united the dragons into a vengeful army, and only a final artifact stands in the way of them unleashing their fury against humankind. With established allegiances shifting under the strain, Seth and Kendra find themselves in desperate need of new allies.
Seth must face his most dangerous quest yet—the fulfillment of his pledge to the Singing Sisters. With only Calvin the Tiny Hero at his side, Seth needs to collect the pieces of the Ethergem. Halfway across the world, Kendra finds herself torn between her duty to Dragonwatch and her desire to rescue Bracken.
For the defenders of light to stand a chance, the legendary Dragon Slayers must arise, lost secrets must be uncovered, and ancient powers must awaken.
Get ready for the gripping, revelatory, and unforeseen conclusion to the epic ten-volume New York Times best-selling Fablehaven and Dragonwatch series.”
My Book Review:
What can I say? I feel like a kid in a candy store! I’m so excited about this book! It’s so good! This book has been a long while in coming, and it was worth the wait! All the things are in this book. The great characters, the action, the adventure, the cringe (ahem—Knox–), and the fun. Things were mended and fixed, things were discovered, things were risked, and many things were gained. Friends were found, new places were discovered, and courage was shown.
I loved it! It was the perfect ending to this series. It’s well written, engaging, fun, and so entertaining. I loved the twists and turns along the way, the surprises, and even the predictability of a few things. Brandon Dorman’s art is fantastic once again! Kendra and Seth have become friends, and I’m sad to see them go.
I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises, so I’ll just say that you need to read this book! If you have read and loved the Fablehaven and Dragonwatch series, then reading Return of the Dragon Slayers is a must!! Thank you, Brandon Mull, for creating such a wonderful world that we have all been able to be a part of.
Content Rating: PG+ (There isn’t any profanity or “intimacy” in this book. There is violence, though. It is a war between the dragons and everyone else. They fight and characters do die.)
Age Recommendation: Middle-Graders (4th-6th)+
My Rating: 4.5/5
